There are many differences between ruminant and non-ruminant and poultry digestive tracts. Poultry digestion doesn't start in the mouth. Unlike in ruminants and nonruminants where the digestion begins once the food enters the body through the mouth. Instead of having a big stomach to store food they have different organs that mstore the food. As food passes through through their body there are multiple organs that digests the food. As the food passes through these organs it acts as a "temporary stomach". Poultry's digestive systems are also a lot less effective. The poultry's digestive system doesn't store food in one place for long periods. This doesn't allow for the body to absorb many nutrients from the food. So, poultry have to eat very nutrient dense foods.
